Our schools are under real pressure. Two campuses are being taken over, and a third may not be far behind if the direction does not change. My concern is not only what happens this year. It is whether the district builds lasting improvement, or gets stuck in a cycle of short-term fixes that leave deeper problems unresolved.
These campuses do not exist in isolation. They feed into the middle grades, then the high school, and eventually into the strength of our city and surrounding communities. If we want a healthy future for Texarkana, we need to help heal schools in a way that lasts.
